FAQs

Do I need experience?

No, unless otherwise stated, no experience is needed.  As group sizes are small the session is adapted to your needs. Contact us if unsure.

Do you sell gift vouchers?

Yes, vouchers can be purchased on line, include a free personalised message, and are valid for one year.

Is there a minimum age?

There is a minimum age of 8 years, and a parent / guardian must be present (on land) for the duration of the session.  Specific events, such as paddling on the sea, may have a different minimum age and this will be detailed for that event.

What should I bring?

  • Bring clothes appropriate to the weather.  Och Aye Canoe can supply wetsuits, swimwear should be worn underneath
  • No jeans!
  • You'll need shoes that can get wet, like trainers - no wellies or flip-flops!
  • Depending on the weather bring hat, gloves, water/hot flask, sun lotion, towel, change of clothes
  • Buoyancy aids are supplied and must be worn at all times whilst on the water
  • Important - you must bring any medication you need otherwise you may not be able to take-part in your booked activity.

Are there changing rooms?

No sorry, please be prepared to get changed at your car.

Can I just turn up on the day?

No, Och Aye Canoe requires you to book and pay in advance

Can I just hire a kayak or paddleboard and go myself?

No sorry, Och Aye Canoe does not do equipment hire stand alone.

Will I capsize?

Och Aye Canoe uses sit-on kayaks which are very stable, and you cannot get trapped in them.  Over 3 years there have only been 7 capsizes!  Obviously there's a chance you'll fall in however group sizes are small with a qualified instructor on-hand to help.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Generally our activites go ahead in all weather (even the rain!).  However if Och Aye Canoe cancels your session due to bad weather (usually too windy or thunderstorms) we will offer a reschedule, voucher, or full refund.  Och Aye Canoe does not issue refunds if a customer decides not to attend (or wants to cancel) when Och Aye Canoe considers conditions safe of the activity to go ahead.

Where do I put my personal belongings, keys, etc, when on water?

Och Aye Canoe can offer space within their locked pick-up truck for small personal belongings and/or keys, this is a goodwill gesture.  The truck is locked whilst we are on the water but Och Aye Canoe cannot accept any responsibility for loss or damage to items left in their care.  Otherwise please bring a suitable waterproof bag to take your items with you on the water, or. have some means to leave at your own vehicle.
