What a start to the year! Winning Scottish Businesswoman of the Year 2024 still feels surreal. The awards ceremony took place in Perth, Scotland, and I’ll be honest—I was absolutely not expecting to win. Sitting there, listening to the incredible achievements of the other finalists, I was just happy to be in the room. Then my name was called, and for a moment, I think I just sat there in shock! To make the moment even more special, the award was presented by Joyce Whyte OBE, a truly inspirational leader.
I started Och Aye Canoe because I wanted to share my love of paddling and make the outdoors more accessible. I never set out to win awards, so to be recognised at this level is both humbling and a little overwhelming. It’s taken me a while to process it, and even now, I still find myself thinking, “Wow… that really happened!”
This award isn’t just about me—it’s about the journey, the people I’ve paddled with, and the difference we’ve made together. From teaching first-time paddlers to working with Help for Heroes and Limbless Veterans, I’ve seen firsthand how much joy, confidence, and freedom time on the water can bring. Winning this award is a reflection of all those moments.
It also reinforces my belief that businesses can thrive while staying true to their values. Och Aye Canoe has always been about quality, inclusivity, and adventure, and this recognition only strengthens my commitment to that. It’s a reminder to keep pushing forward, to keep making paddling accessible, and to keep raising the bar in what I offer.
Looking ahead, this win is more than just a title—it’s an opportunity. It’s a chance to grow Och Aye Canoe bigger and better, while staying true to the high standards that got me here. This year, I’ll be working with a fantastic team of freelance instructors, which means more opportunities, new types of trips, and even greater flexibility for those who want to get out on the water. Whether you’re looking for a private lesson, a group adventure, or a special experience like paddling at the Falkirk Wheel or along the coast, we’re making it happen.
I want to thank everyone who has supported me on this journey—my paddling friends, my brilliant customers, and everyone who has believed in what Och Aye Canoe stands for. Winning Scottish Businesswoman of the Year is an honour, but it’s also just the beginning.
Let’s see where the water takes us next! 🚣‍♀️💙
