Do I need to be able to swim?

No, however it helps if you feel okay to be on the water. Buoyancy aids must be worn on the water at all times regardless of your swimming ability.

Do I need previous experience?

No, please ensure you book onto a beginner’s session though. Contact us if unsure.

Are there age restrictions?

Anyone from age 8 and over is welcome. Specific events, such as paddling on the sea, may vary (details will be published on the event).

What should I wear / bring?

Bring clothing appropriate to the weather. No jeans! Bring shoes that can get wet, but no wellies or flip-flops. Depending on the weather bring hat, gloves, water / hot flask, sun lotion, towel, change of clothes. Och Aye Canoe supplies wetsuits on request. Buoyancy aids are supplied and must be worn at all times whilst on the water.

Important – You must bring any medication needed. Failure to do so may result in the person not being able to take-part in activities.

Are there changing rooms?

Due to COVID restrictions there are no changing rooms at this time – so change at your car, or there are plenty trees on site to hide behind! If you’d prefer not to wear a wetsuit that option also exists.

 

Can I just turn up on the day?

No, Och Aye Canoe requires you to book and pay in advance. You can book here.

Is there a discount for bringing my own equipment?

Yes, the booking form lists an option for you to add you have all your own equipment, this then applies a discount at the checkout. If you’re unsure then please contact us.

I have experience, can I just rent a kayak or paddleboard myself?

No, we only offer guided trips or lessons, we do not have equipment to rent sorry.

What happens if the weather is bad on the day of my activity?

Generally our activities go ahead in all weathers (even the rain!). However if Och Aye Canoe cancels your session due to bad weather conditions (normally it being too windy) we will offer to move you to a new date, or issue a full refund. Och Aye Canoes does not issue refunds if a customer decides not to attend (or wants to cancel) when Och Aye Canoe considers conditions safe for the activity to go ahead.

Can I bring a camera?

Yes, however this is at your own risk and Och Aye Canoe cannot accept liability for any damage that may occur during your activity.

COVID MEASURES

How can you ensure that the activity will be safe?

Och Aye Canoe has a trained COVID officer and operates within the Scottish Canoe Association and Scottish Government guidelines at all times  Our kit is thoroughly cleaned and disinfected after every use.

What happens if I have to cancel due to feeling unwell?

Please refer to Terms & Conditions at time of booking.

What happens if I capsize or need first aid?

Och Aye Canoe understands that social distancing is paramount, however so is your physical safety.  Should you capsize instructors will be on hand to show you how to get back onto your craft from a distance.  Should someone require additional assistance or first aid Och Aye Canoe will do so whilst being aware of your safety at all times.
